Organization: VU medisch centrum
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Field: Medical sciences
Requirements:
We are looking for a Post-doc with a PhD degree in molecular biology/genetic/bioinformatics. The candidate should have the ability to work in an environment where both diagnostics and research is being performed. An interest in translational research is warranted. The candidate should have interest and some experience in bioinformatics. Some knowledge of Dutch or the interest to learn Dutch is needed for this job.
Abstract:

Description:
The Post-doc will be involved in developing new genetic tests for the detection of disease causing mutations in genes associated with neurometabolic disorders, white matter disorders and genes involved in one carbon metabolism. The candidate should have interest in innovation and ideally have experience in exome sequencing. To recognize the disease-causing variants, data analysis as well as the development of functional assays will be important. The work will be executed within the DNA diagnostics and research unit of the Metabolic Laboratory of the dept. of Clinical Chemistry. You will collaborate with clinical molecular and biochemical geneticists, PhD students, scientists and technicians. About 50% of the DNA requests are from abroad. Since many of the disorders for which we offer diagnostics are very rare, only one or a few labs worldwide offer diagnostics, and thus we often have collaborations with international laboratories. Not seldom the results form the basis of novel research as well as published papers in peer reviewed journals
